So I unintentionally went into hibernation during this long winter. I didn't really do much of anything...didn't cook much...didn't write much...didn't draw much. Life during this long winter consisted mainly of working and trying to stay warm. But now that spring has finally arrived, let the adventures begin!
What do you do when it's the first 60 degree day and you and your best friend have the day off? You go hiking of course! Oh, there's still over a foot of snow on the trail? Screw it! Put on gators and continue on your merry way. This was by far the best spring hiking day I've encountered in quite some time.
We woke up super early (or what felt super early, thanks Adam!), made some french press coffee (seriously, you will never use anything else after using one of these magical devices), threw some on layers and outfitted the dog in his new fabulous booties, and headed out on our very merry way.
Click here to watch Moxie wearing his booties for the first time. This has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen (and don't forget to 'like' the video).
Mt. Streaked (pronounced streak-ED) is in Buckfield just off of 117. About an hour or so from the Portland area, the drive is beautiful. Somewhere along the way we saw buffalo! Unfortunately, no pictures of these creatures were taken but we will surely be back especially to explore all of the farm stands and orchards, come summer. The mountain itself is an exceptionally easy hike, perfect for all experience levels. The trail heads straight up with about half of it being clear of trees.
We were definitely some of the few who had hiked the trail since the last snow storm. And it being relatively early in the morning (got to the trail about quarter after nine) we had the trail all to ourselves.
It really was that warm...
And this was the last time they were ever seen alive....Hiking tip number 1. Always take a picture at the start of the trail...
And now that I am awake and fully functional after this loooonnng hibernation more adventures will sure follow this :) Can. Not. Wait.
